William Ratcliffe - a very brave man

William Ratcliffe was so brave that he was awarded the highest medal a soldier can get – a Victoria Cross. You can come and read his story at the Queen’s Lancashire Regimental Museum. He was a stretcher bearer in the First World War and saved his friends lives. He captured a machine gun from the enemy (you can see the gun here!) and then picked up his stretcher and carried on helping injured soldiers get back to safety.
