Make a Day of it
Preston is the UK’s newest city and there’s plenty to do for families, both indoors and out. Our four fabulous museums are close to all the action in the city centre, and to Preston’s many parks for some fresh air and a kick-about!
The Harris Museum & Art Gallery is right in the centre of the city on the Market Square in the same building as the Harris Library (pop in for a book whilst you’re here). You could combine your visit with a spot of shopping or lunch for the family. The Museum is across the road from the Guild Hall and Charter Theatre if you fancy a show. Or you might want to take a picnic to Winckley Square to enjoy the outdoors.
The Queen’s Lancashire Regimental Museum is close to Sainsbury’s and not far from Deepdale Retail Centre. It is a 5 minute walk from Preston North End and Moor Park if you want a kick-about.
The Ribble Steam Railway is close to Riversway, the shops and the cinema. You could walk along to the Docks and see what’s happening on the water too.
The Museum of Lancashire is just on the edge of the city centre, so you can stroll to the shops for some retail therapy or combine a visit with the Harris. Don’t forget that the Museum is closed until autumn 2011.
Have a look at the family fun pages on VisitPreston’s site for more ideas of how to make a day of it.
